I provide individual counseling to children and adolescents (ages 10-18) who may be struggling with a variety of emotional and behavioral difficulties including grief and loss, behavioral/academic challenges, anxiety, depression, substance use, self-image and self-esteem issues, parent-child relationship difficulties, and complex trauma histories. I have extensive experience working within the school system and at the intensive outpatient level of support. I encourage care taker and guardian involvement, when appropriate, to help facilitate a supportive network. I work with your child to give them the tools needed to communicate effectively with their loved ones.
My experiences working in the public, private, and therapeutic school settings provide me with the ability to support adolescents in all the different pressures they may be experiencing. Well-versed in IEP and 504 plans, I believe collaborating with your child's school support team is paramount to their overall success. I will be you and your child's advocate and support you through any questions you may have about school-based supports. I've been involved in multi-disciplinary teams and will advocate for your child's needs. With experience coaching athletic teams at the high school level, I have a deep appreciation and understanding of the added pressures of being a student athlete.
My additional specialization is working with adolescents who struggle with substance use. Many times substance use is connected to other challenges, such as anger, depression, or anxiety. I do not focus on telling a client what to do or to stop doing a certain behavior, instead, I work with them to understand the pros and cons of any choice they make, and how those choices can impact them in unexpected ways.

Individual sessions are 45-55 minutes. For a fee quote please fill out the interest form on the Contact Page. I believe finding the right therapist is important so I provide a free 15 minute phone consultation to obtain a better understanding of you and your child's needs and answer any questions you may have. If my style or expertise is not the best resource for you and your child, I will provide you with information for other counseling resources.
I am in network with BCBS PPO IL and United Healthcare. For out-of-network services, I can provide you with a receipt to submit to your respective insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. It is the client's responsibility to confirm out-of-network benefits with their insurance provider, specifically teletherapy. Payment is due at the time of services.
Payment can be made by cash, credit card (via Ivy Pay), Zelle, PayPal, or check made out to Erin Shapiro.
